Words
If you were to step away from your television screen and monitor the words from the audio of the programming you are watching you might be surprised at what you are listening to. Now I am not just concerned with the words from the television shows but also the words from the radio by way of talk shows and songs. In addition, I am also concerned with the words that coworkers and friends are using. To a good writer words are used to paint a picture and the painting of your life is made up of words for good or bad. The words that make up our inner and outer communication determine if we are contagious in a positive or a negative way.
Without words we could not express ourselves. Babies learn language based upon the home they grow up in. For example, a baby born in Italy learns to speak Italian while a baby born in the USA may grow up to learn English. For there is no argument that what we hear programs our mind and goes onto create our perspective which is our attitude and attitude creates mindset. If you listen to a lot of negative words you will have a negative mindset and if you listen to positive words you will adopt a positive mindset. What are the words you are listening to?
I want to attempt to paint for you the picture of of how this works. For this hypothetical example we will use a character named Bob who is 35 and thinks his life sucks. Bob is a very negative person and he grew up in a very negative household that included much anger and violence. While Bob was growing up he was told by his parents and teachers that he would not amount to much. He ends up not amounting to much because this is the programming he receives. In fact his perspective and mindset as an adult is very similar to that of his mother and father which is negative. Each day Bob watches hours of news programming which is negative. He also enjoys watching all of the cop and detective based television shows. While watching TV each day thousands of negative words keep filling his mind. His mind feels right at home each day as Bob feeds his mind exactly what his mind is and desires. The result is a very negative mindset. It is the same result a diabetic would get if they just day after day kept feeding themselves more sugar while expecting their sugar level to drop.
This is of course how insanity is defined because when anyone does the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result that of course is insanity. The dynamics for Bob is that Bob is not a bad awful person but Bob has poor programming and unless he is willing to put in the hard inner work that is required to change Bob will continue to just get worse and worse and not be able to attract or create the best life possible. In order to attract the best life possible each of us must seek to become the best version of ourselves. This does not happen on its own and requires consistent and persistent pursuit of our unlimited potential.
Bob is where he is because that is where Bobs mind and attitude is now and has been for a long period of time. Each day he is experiencing negative self talk due to a low self esteem as well as receiving huge dosages of negativity from outside sources. I have no doubt that Bob could get better but just as the programming to create Bob did not happen overnight, Bob will not be reprogrammed over night. This blog post is titled words because it is words that can greatly expand us and words that can dramatically constrict us from being the best we can be. Negative words can scar a child at a very young age and keep that child scarred for life. The reason people will tell you that people do not change is because that is mostly true just as it has been for them. The truth is you can change but it takes a burning desire backed by persistence and faith to do so just like anything else.
Bob is listening to negativity, telling himself negative things which is keeping his identity low, and then manifesting what he is on the inside onto the outside world by way of the words he speaks, thoughts, feelings, behavior, his appearance, attitude, and mindset. The way in which we think, feel, and behave is our personality and what we are made up of on the inside for good or bad becomes our reality. Our life is an interconnected series of things and that entire network of interconnections starts with words. It does not require an advanced degree to know where someone is coming from but we do need to look and listen because mindfulness is required. Bob is destroying his life just like so many people actually do because of the interconnectedness of words to ones psychology and physiology. Sometimes when people are very negative all you have to do is ask are you listening to yourself and they might reply what do you mean? or huh?
Okay, Bobs problem is not that difficult to understand. The road to recovery is however, not easy. Instead of explaining what may seem like an overwhelming amount of work Bob will have to do to reprogram his mind, suggested here is just one step he can take. The one step is to be mindful of what he is watching and listening to. He must control the incoming negativity if he is to have a chance of trying things around. At the end of the day nothing changes unless we decide to change. Negativity is like a cancer that will completely transform your inner world and outer world for the worse. If your outer world is to change to a more positive one then you must transform the inner. From the outside in the highest level of happiness you will achieve is short term but the inner transformation or engineering will produce long term happiness which is called fulfillment.
On my journey to create a better version of me I am engaged actively in many different practices. One practice involves the cutting down of watching negative programming like the news by at least ninety percent. It is time to place your mind on a negativity diet. A negativity diet is just as hard as a food diet because of the abundance of negativity. Begin thinking on how you can downsize the amount of negativity coming into your life daily and over time this will make a big difference. Take the time you need to make a list of the negative things in your life that you have the power to change. Stop adding to your non peace while expecting peace. Throughout each day become more self aware of you inner self talk while recognizing that these type of thoughts will never serve you in creating a better you.
It will not be easy to do this because it is quite possible that the very thing you are trying to escape from your mind will continue to desire. If you do not tell your mind who is boss then it will never serve you and you will continue to serve it. In order to reach any big result or accomplishment in your life you must earn it. Habits over time produce results but it must also be understood that your negative habits have produced negative results. Change your habits to positive ones by raising your standards and at the end of the day you will find that you always get your standards or musts if you are willing to put in the work.
