You Must Believe In You
While you should never feel pressured to believe in any philosophy or religion, you should feel a sense of urgency to believe in yourself. The reason a sense of urgency is important when believing in yourself is because life requires that we are living it with a sense of urgency due to the fact that none of us have unlimited time to do something significant with our lives. The clock does not stop ticking away for us. The truth is we can show up to late to the game and this will happen if someone continues on with a low identity. Like in basketball, our shot clock is winding down.
What do I mean by a low identity? A low identity comes from low self esteem, low confidence, low courage, low self worth, associating with low people, and an overall low self image. If we do not believe ourselves to be worthy then we end up not being worth all that much. This comes from having limiting beliefs about ourselves and the universe. These limiting beliefs are often formed when people begin to label us in a negative way which ultimately leads to us labeling ourselves as such.. When this happens over time we begin to believe what is being said. Our minds can be programmed with false information just as they can be programmed with the truth. This negative false programming becomes our identity.
When we begin to challenge these negative beliefs our whole life changes because our identity governs how much we can achieve. It is up to us to desire a higher identity and work hard towards it. If you think a higher identity will come by being a victim and blaming other people then you are sadly mistaken. In order for any inner transformation to occur we must move from blame to accountability.
My advice for creating a higher identity is to challenge your limiting negative beliefs and when you do so you will come to find out that these beliefs are mostly untrue because they are not based in fact. This is in no way comfortable for us to do but it is through discomfort that we find comfort. We become just like the people that we mostly hang out with so you may want to begin to hang out with different people including people you do not agree with. One of the biggest secrets about life is that when we only identify with one point of view and surround ourselves with that point of view we greatly limit ourselves. Start to open yourself to the unfamiliar and the unknown because there are great possibilities in what we do not know.
If you are constantly receiving negative messaging from negative perspectives, negative attitudes, and overall negative mindsets then do not expect to end up with a positive life. Turning off the news and opening up an inspiring or motivating book is like medicine for your well being. Taking care of yourself is not just about going to the doctor and getting a prescription. Pain medication may make you feel great but in the long run is not great for your mind or body.
We can change many things in our life that do not best serve us. It may be frightening but it is important that we do what is the trademark of Nike which is to "just do it." "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." (Marianne Williamson). When you stop saying you can't and start saying you can then you will because we get what we have a burning desire to achieve.
As you begin to for example to work out, live right, eat right, get the proper rest, keep the promises you make to yourself and others, associate with only high quality people, create effective habits and routines, practice gratitude, practice positive affirmations, meditate, stop complaining, and use your computer to tap into outstanding knowledge and wisdom over time your life wil improve. Just as you have made a committment over time to create a low identity, you can make a commitment over time to build a high identity. “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” (Dr. Viktor Frankl).
